Pachter: Modern Warfare 3 Will Double Battlefield 3 Sales
We all don’t need a crash course on who will come out the winner in sales between first person shooter heavyweights Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3. Giving the sales of the previous titles from both games, Call of Duty has always come out stronger. Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter made a prediction on what this years sales figures will be between both games.
Pachter told American media company Forbes that both games will bring in a revenue of 1.4 billion dollars within 3 months of release, that’s about 15 percent of total packaged game sales. He then went on to say that Modern Warfare 3 will sell 16 million copies before the years ends and Battlefield 3 selling half that with 8 million copies. He also stated that when we enter 2012 Battlefield 3 could shift an additional two million, while Modern Warfare 3 can grab a further eight million.
He then went on to talk about console gamers and believes a lot of people will end up buying both games.
“I’d guess that around half of the console copies of Battlefield 3 will be bought by people who also buy Modern Warfare 3, so around two to three million will buy both,” he said. “I don’t see much cannibalization of the titles.”
That’s a generous statement as the previous Battlefield game Bad company 2 has sold 9 million copies as of now. Battlefield 3 has already had it’s release in North America and will be hitting European stores in two days. Lets not lie, Battlefield 3 looks amazing and is definitely a step up from it’s predecessor Bad Company 2. Call of Duty is used to being in the spotlight and will take Modern Warfare 3 release on November 8th as regular clockwork. We just have to wait and see if both games sell as many as predicted, it’s safe to say Modern Warfare 3 will.
Will you be buying both Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3?
