ModernWarfare3.com Domain Leads People to Battlefield 3 Website
A website with the domain ModernWarfare3.com seems to have being tampered with as of late. The website has baffled browsers as when opened it leads you to the official Battlefield 3 page. The Modern Warfare 3 page is not owned nor hold any links to the game’s publisher Activision, which has led a lot of people to think EA may be behind it as a publicity stunt of some sort.
If one was to look up the domain it would show the registrant as Domains By Proxy, Inc, a company who provide domain privacy services and that it has being registered since March 2009 and will remain active until at least the same date in 2013.
ModernWarfare3.com when functional was a site with showed all Modern Warfare 3 content but contained negative descriptions of it. A part broken cache version of the domain name also opens to a YouTube video slandering Modern Warfare 3 for being to similar to it’s series predecessor Modern Warfare 2. The description attached to the video reads as followed.
“Modern Warfare is crap. On November 8, 2011, the most over-hyped first-person action series of all-time returns with the copy and paste sequel to the lackluster Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Check out the E3 2011 gameplay demo featuring the Black Tuesday level for a look at the epic fail of the campaign. Pre-Order Call of Duty MW3 Today for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC to secure exclusive bonuses only available online for Modern Warfare 3 fanboys who don’t know that Battlefield 3 is the better game.”
Gaming website 1up.com got in contact with EA see if they had any part in the website fiasco, they confirmed that ModernWarfare3.com is not an EA site, nor is the domain owned by EA. Either way publisher Activision will not be happy at these turn of events, especially as both games come to head at the end of the year. 1up have tried to contact Activision for a statement but as of now have yet to respond about the matter and probably don’t want to.
As of now the website is still leads you to the official Battlefield 3 website and it’s not known if the website owner is trying to restore the website to it’s previous status, but one would think considering the endless stories of hacking hitting the internet lately one can take a wild guess they are behind it.
