Modern Warfare 3 Becomes Biggest Entertainment Launch Ever
There is no denying the success of Modern Warfare 3, whether you enjoy the game or not. With the pre-orders racing ahead of that of Black Ops from the previous year, it was to be expected that Modern Warfare 3 would shatter all sorts of records.
Modern Warfare 3 sold 6.5 million units (which translates into $400 million) in its first 24 hours on sale in the US and UK, surpassing Black Ops as Activision’s biggest day-one seller. To compare this figure with the record holding movie launch. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 made a mere $91 million in its first 24 hours and a total of $381 million to date according to Box Office Mojo.
This marks the third consecutive year that the Call of Duty franchise has set day-one launch records across all forms of entertainment. Last year, Black Ops had estimated day one sell through of $360 million, and in 2009, Modern Warfare 2 raked in $310 million on the first day.
Wonder how long it will take Modern Warfare 3 to rake in more than $1 billion in sales just like Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops did.
