Halo Reach Failed To Outsell Modern Warfare 2
Halo: Reach, the fourth installment of the space-themed first-person shooter franchise, went on sale on September 14th. Microsoft has announced that Halo: Reach has netted $200 million in sales in only one day of release. The third installment of the franchise, Halo 3, managed to rake in $170 million on its release day.
To put that sale number in perspective, it beats out the opening day numbers of any Hollywood blockbuster ever. The current records is held by Warner Bros’ “The Dark Knight” movie which managed to rake in $158 million on its opening day.
Microsoft Game Studios Vice President Phil Spencer also announced another record set by Halo Reach. Which is the record for most simultaneous Xbox Live users online at one time. This record was previously held by Halo 3.
With a staggering number of $200 million on its release day, Halo Reach still didn’t manage to outsell the current record holder. According to the Guinness World Records website, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 managed to acquire $401.6 million on its release day.
