No Call of Duty Elite for PC? [Update]
UPDATE: The official Call of Duty Elite Twitter account tweeted earlier saying they “misspoke”. PC users will get access to Elite after all. When this will happen, is yet to be determined.
ORIGINAL STORY: PC users are in for a surprise, a bad one at that. The PC version of Elite was delayed by Activision ahead of Modern Warfare 3’s launch, the reason being, as stated by Beachhead Studio head Chacko Sonny:
We’re as committed as ever to the PC, but the need to ensure a safe PC environment is greater than ever. It’s really extensive. We need more time to get there, so Elite on PC will not launch on Day 1. We’re working our butts off to make it happen, but we won’t release it until we know that PC gamers can enjoy Elite as it’s meant to be. The issue here is that the PC is an insecure platform. Without a central, trusted resource for stats, a lot of our competition features become unfair. We can’t give away prizes when people can easily cheat their stats. Leaderboards are less fun when a lot of the users are there unfairly.
Up until today PC users could look forward to getting access to Elite at some point, but today the situation changed after a tweet from the official Call of Duty Elite Twitter account. The tweet reads: “We are working towards a universal Elite experience but we cannot guarantee if or when a version will be available for the PC”
In short, don’t get your hopes up PC users.
The launch of Call of Duty Elite has been anything but successful. As we pointed out earlier, the social network platform is having (launch) problems, undoubtedly you’ve noticed that as well. At least if you’re a PS3 of Xbox 360 user since those are the 2 platforms with access to Elite. As an apology from Activision for the rocky launch of Elite, premium Elite members saw 30 days added to their subscription period, free of charge.
If you are 1 of the many people who didn’t become an “Elite Founder”, be prepared to wait longer than the founding members to get full access to Elite as the services will be restricted to non-founder customers.
