Community Beat #11: Thankful for Patches

The American holiday of Thanksgiving has passed. A time we surround ourselves with good friends, family, and of course an over abundance of food. We shared what and who we are thankful for then stuffed ourselves to the point of immobility. This brief reflection of all the blessings that are bestowed upon us should be reflected on more often than this annual occurrence. However it often is not, unfortunately it is human nature to focus on what we don’t have instead of what we are truly fortunate, to have.

I am just as guilty of this human flaw as the next. I grumble about lag, however I am truly thankful to live in a time and place where online gaming is even possible. I know the lag can be maddening in this game. It is improving though. Also we have seen swift dealings with cheaters, boosters, and glitchers. 1,600 accounts banned or suspended due to illegal activities. For that I am truly thankful, justice cannot be served fast enough for those who try to game the game. Of course the Elite service is still experiencing issues and we will see if they will be able to hold to the December 1st date for fixing those issues. I am skeptical but do wish them success in this endeavor.

Along with other issues facing this game it appears we had some speed/slow motion lobbies surface. I never saw one personally but a few friends of mine said they ran into them. The Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer team had this issue fixed in under twelve hours. Along with patches addressing getting into/under the map in certain spots. Also a fix is in place to balance the FMG9’s. I can be nothing but thankful for this continued support of the game after release which has honestly always been Treyarch’s strong point, and Infinity Ward’s shortcoming. I believe this is a thing of the past with the success of the Elite service gaining one million subscribers in six days. To keep these subscribers for longer than a year they will need to stay on top of the after release support while continuing to deliver premium content.

Now while I will tip my hat to them for fixing the hacked lobbies in under twelve hours, along with all the other fixes and patches. I think it’s important to note that a game is only as good as the community that surrounds it. So to all you who take time to report cheaters, boosters, glitchers, hackers, etc. should be applauded as well. For you I am truly thankful, and I implore you to continue your due diligence. Happy gaming and look forward to finding you on the battlefield.
