Community Beat #3: It’s All About XP
For the next 48 hours fans will be immersed in the world Call of Duty. The Call of Duty XP event kicks off Friday September 2nd at 9:30 am PDT followed by the world wide premier of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer briefing at 11am PDT.Afterwards those attending will be able to actually play the game themselves. Along with giving attendees hands on time with the game there are the 4 open spots people will be battling for to enter the $1 million dollar tournament, this is a 32-team, single-elimination tournament for $1 million in cash and prizes.
The top 8 teams will walk away with a portion of the cool million. According to YouTube commentator Trevor Martin the money is being broken down as follows: $400k, $200k, $100k, $100k, $50k, $50k, $50k, $50k. Besides the tournament there is a laundry list of events like live action time trials in “The Pit”, paintball on Modern Warfare 2’s “Scrapyard”, Juggernaut sumo wrestling, a Kowloon like zip line, the Jeep Wrangler combat simulation, and much more to keep attendees occupied.
Now for some other events not listed on the itinerary. According to the Treyarch community manager’s Twitter feed, Josh Olin will be battling Machinima Respawn director/ commentator WhiteBoy7thst in a 1v1 paintball match with Treyarch’s head of multiplayer development David Vonderhaar acting as the commentator.
Not only will David Vonderhaar be commentating this epic grudge match between developers and commentators he will also be on a panel hosted by G4TV’s Geoff Keighly on Satuday September 3rd. On the panel he plans to discuss Second Chance, Quick Scoping, Emblem Porn, etc. and according to several hints on his Twitter feed he has a big suprise in store. My sources haven’t been able to disclose what it is yet. I do have an unofficial report that he will either be at the panel, or walking around the event decked out in full ghillie suit, with a replica Famas, and some kind of special artwork on his helmet.
Now for those of you who like me, could not attend the Call of Duty XP weekend extravaganza don’t fret. Now thanks to PMSAgentcoke for asking Mr. Vonderhaar has authorized a Double XP weekend for all platforms for those who couldn’t make it. So while we are green with envy at all our friends who were able to attend, at least we can take our frustrations out on unsuspecting foes and grind out that next prestige. The Double XP weekend event should go live at Friday 10 am PDT and ends Tuesday at 10 am PDT.
Not only will we here at the Call of Duty Community be streaming the events live we will be updating our Twitter and Facebook feeds with live reports from people on the floor trying to keep you up to date on all the events, tournament standings, etc. Now as I stated, we have people on the floor so please send us feedback to questions you want answered. If anyone’s got a chance of finding out for you it will most likely be them.
Now go spread the word so your friends will follow, like, and +1 to keep this community growing and to deliver to you the most complete and up to date news on the next addition to the Call of Duty franchise, Modern Warfare 3.
