Call of Duty: Ghosts’ Extinction Mode Revealed
For weeks, it has been widely reported that there will be a brand new game mode, in Call of Duty: Ghosts, which will be known as Extinction. Until now, the new game mode had just been a rumor, but earlier this week, Activision confirmed the rumor by means of an official reveal trailer. The trailer has been uploaded to the official Call of Duty YouTube channel, and is available for viewing.
The Extinction game mode, which has been described as a four-player cooperative survival mode, will pit players against waves of aliens. The mode will feature aspects of survival and scavenging, and will even have its own upgrade system. In Extinction, each playable character will possess a unique class, with his or her abilities meant to compliment the abilities of the other players on the team. In other words, the Extinction game mode comes across, somewhat, as the natural evolution of the Zombies game mode, which has been featured in the Call of Duty titles produced by Treyarch.
The reveal trailer, as do most trailers for Call of Duty: Ghosts, focuses on the cinematic elements of the game. However, the Extinction game mode itself looks poised to be full of action, and intense moments. Fans of Zombies are very likely to appreciate the new Extinction mode. Whether or not the mode becomes a series mainstay, like its undead counterpart, remains to be seen.
Call of Duty: Ghosts was released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC, on November 5th. A PlayStation 4 release will occur on November 15th, and an Xbox One release will occur on November 22nd.
