“Connection Interrupted” [Black Ops Rant]

I love Call of Duty: Black Ops, I really do. But the more I play it, the more I dislike all the mechanics that make Black Ops possible.

Can’t comment much on the Single player campaign as I rarely play it, but I’m sure like me, many of you are addicted to Black Ops’ Multiplayer mode. The Multiplayer mode gameplay is too good to describe. Maps, guns, perks, customization, you name it. Everything is well thought out. Except for the spawn system, but that’s not what this post is about. It’s about all the mechanics that happen behind the scene to make the Multiplayer mode as addictive as it is.

Let’s start with the rant. The most annoying error, at least for me and in my opinion, is the “Connection Interrupted” error. Whenever I get this error I get the urge to throw my PS3 at someone’s head. This error can do 2 things. It will either make your game stop for a very short time and resume after a second or two. This however isn’t the case in 99 out of the 100 times. The other 99 times you will get the “Connection Interrupted” error, your current game will stop and you will return to the lobby.

Imagine you having a conversation with a friend and in the middle of the conversation your friend decides to leave. How messed up would that be?

The irritation doesn’t stop with the “Connection Interrupted” error, no, there is a lot more. What about when your game decides to freeze and you have to reset your PS3 because nothing will respond anymore? This is the second most annoying error Black Ops has to offer for me. And just like the “Connection Interrupted” error, the game freeze up happens A LOT. It doesn’t matter which map or game mode I’m playing, the freeze ups happen. I’m not sure if this happens for Xbox 360 users. Feel free to share it in a comment if this also happens for the Xbox 360.

Then we have the third most annoying “error” Black Ops has to offer. This happens when you are in the lobby and the minimum player limit is reached and the game is about to start but the message “Need more players to balance teams…” doesn’t go away. Even if you have the maximum amount of players, the message doesn’t go away meaning the game doesn’t start. There are 2 ways to get rid of this. The first way is to make the current host leave. Once the host leaves a new host will be found and the game has a chance to start. Note that I say “a chance to start”. I say that because most of the time you will get some sort of an error and it won’t connect to a new host. The second way to get rid of the message is easier: Return and find a new game.

These 3 errors are just the tip of the iceberg. There are too many more errors players get annoyed by to mention. But getting rid of these 3 errors will make Black Ops a MUCH better game than it already is. Getting rid of these 3 errors would also mean that I can play 3 games in a row without getting one of the many errors, because right now that isn’t possible.

I will stop my rant here and give you the opportunity to agree, disagree or continue ranting.
