Black Ops Best Selling Game in US History

When Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was breaking sales record last year, everyone was thunderstruck by the numbers. And now, a mere year later, we are once again thunderstruck by the sales numbers, but this time it’s Call of Duty: Black Ops‘ sales numbers.

First Call of Duty: Black Ops broke the 1 day sales record in the US and UK, earning $360 million (5.6 million copies) within 24 hours. With the 1 day sales record broken, it was only a matter of time before Call of Duty: Black Ops would surpass the $1 billion in sales mark, just like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 did the year before.

With all the momentum Call of Duty: Black Ops has, it was only a matter of time before it grabbed the ultimate sales accolade. Market research firm NPD reported that Call of Duty: Black Ops has sold 13.7 million units (as of February), making it the all time best-selling game in US history, which is very impressive considering it has only been on the market since early November.

With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops selling millions of copies and breaking records, it’s needless to say that the upcoming Call of Duty game, most probably Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, will sell millions of copies. But will it be selling enough copies to take the throne from Call of Duty: Black Ops?
