Black Ops 2 Won’t Have Branching Single Player Storyline
Those who were excited about the concept of playing a branching single player experience with Black Ops 2 can light those torches and grab those pitchforks, as the upcoming futuristic shooter won’t include a branching story line. This according to Treyarch director of communications, John Rafacz, who dropped the negative bombshell while talking to Videogamer in an interview recently.
Rafacz was asked to clarify Strike Force missions and their impact on the overall campaign and branching storyline, he replied, “It shapes the fiction around the ending”. He went on to say, “The core single-player experience is one that you and I will share. This is not that kind of experience. It’s an opportunity to introduce an element of non-linearity; action that takes place away from the main storyline. So it breaks up the gameplay but still helps shape that ultimate end.”
This means Strike Force missions themselves will be non-linear and somewhat of a side quest that doesn’t effect the main story line, which means we will all experience the same outcome at the end of the game. For me the branching story line concept had me sold for Black Ops 2, something that majorly different for the series is what set it apart from previous installments. Why Treyarch have decided to turn away from it is beyond me.
As ever, life does goes on and we await the shooters arrivial on November 13 for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, but Activision and Treyarch have remained in the dark over the possibility of the game coming to Wii U.
